Brothers Karsten and Kaius have been really busy during lockdown.

The boys wanted to use their time to do something fun and productive, so created their very own book, called ‘Tales and Adventures from Hong Kong’, complete with their own fantastic illustrations.

And to top it all they have raised an incredible £20,000 which is being shared amongst some special causes, including our very own Oxford Hospitals Charity.

12 year old year old Karsten and 10 year old Kaius both go to the Dragon School in Oxford, but returned home to Hong Kong for the lockdown.

While there, they thought a lot about the important work being done in hospitals and laboratories back in Oxford, and decided they wanted to do something to make a difference.

Karsten explains: “Writing the book was a great experience, but it doesn’t beat being able to help others in these unusual times.”

Kaius adds: “It’s more than a book to us, it’s also an invitation to our friends and family to be charitable and give back to the community.”

The boys wrote to Dr Bruno Holthof, CEO of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, to tell him about their creation and met this week outside the JR to present a cheque to him and our charity CEO Douglas Graham.

Dr Holthof said:  “I was delighted to meet Karsten and Kaius and be able to thank them personally for their generous support. We are incredibly grateful to them for putting their lockdown time to such creative use and for wanting to help the patients and staff in our hospitals.”

Douglas Graham, CEO of Oxford Hospitals Charity added: ‘What an inspiration the boys are! Donations like this, especially during the pandemic, make such a difference to our hospitals, allowing us to provide important extra support for our NHS staff and also to make sure patients get the extra help they need.

"We really appreciate them thinking of our hospitals and doing something so positive to help."

The boys’ parents, Erika and Isaac, added: "We are really proud of them – and it was great to see them work together in a collaborative way. It’s important to remember that during times of crisis we are all in the same boat and should all try to help others – and even a young child can do something really positive."
