Oxford Hospitals Charity and Juice - keeping patients connected

Oxford Hospitals Charity has received a donation of 500 brand new phone chargers from Banbury-based mobile phone accessory manufacturer, Juice.

The chargers have now being distributed across wards and departments at the John Radcliffe, Churchill, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Horton General and Oxford Children’s Hospital - to help patients stay in touch with their friends and family.

Emily Waddell, Community Fundraising Manager at Oxford Hospitals Charity, said: ‘Something as simple as being able to charge your phone to speak to loved ones can easily be taken for granted – but we know right now it is more important than ever.

‘When our patients find themselves taken into hospital, grabbing their phone charger is not always the first thing they think of, but being without a charged phone to communication with friends and family, patients can easily feel cut off.

‘Working with Juice has been an absolutely pleasure. Their determination to help our patients stay connected with their friends and family has meant we have been able to provide these free chargers - both apple and android - to most of our wards across all the hospitals we support.’

Jolyon Bennett, CEO of Juice, added: ‘It’s been a tough 2020 for many businesses and this looks like it’s set to continue. However, we wanted to do something to help people in our local hospitals who may feel isolated at the moment and unable to see much of their friends and family.

‘We believe that technology is a window to the world and as an Oxfordshire business, and with both me and my children having been born at the John Radcliffe,  this feels very personal. So we are proud to be working with Oxford Hospitals Charity to give something back.’

Oxford Hospitals Charity has also funded computer tablets to help patients stay in touch as well as a programme of virtual music concerts to boost the spirits of patients in hospital. Other support includes providing patients with personal puzzle and quiz books alongside other activities to help occupy their time spent in hospital.

Donations, fundraising and gifts in wills to the charity also fund specialist medical equipment and help make the hospital spaces more comfortable for patients and staff.
