Nick Tanner, from Brackley, was well known for his very long hair which he had been growing for the past 15 years – but willing to chop his locks to say thank you to the Horton.

Nick’s Dad, Bill, was admitted to the Horton Critical Care Unit in July 2018, and remained there for two weeks before being moved to the Emergency Assessment Unit, then Laburnum ward, and finally onto Daventry and Northampton hospitals.

 Despite the family being told that he wasn’t expected to survive, thanks to the fantastic treatment he received he was able to pull through and eventually go home.

 In gratitude of this treatment, Nick sacrificed his hair to raise funds for the ward. Those that know Nick and his life-long love of heavy rock music appreciate what a massive gesture this was for him!

 In September 2018 Bill was able to return home and was on hand to yield the first chop of Nick’s locks, removing

a lengthy ponytail to applause and laughter from friends and family.

Sadly Bill was readmitted to the CCU in February this year and passed away two days later, but Nick and his family remain incredibly grateful to the care and compassion his dad was given on both occassions.

Nick said: ‘Although Dad’s condition was terminal, thanks to the wonderful care he received last summer from the Horton’s Critical Care Unit, we were able to celebrate another birthday with him and have another Christmas with him too – that meant such a lot to us.’

Nick’s incredible efforts raised a massive £2,450!

Staff from the ward were so touched by this huge gesture of support and send their thoughts and thanks to Nick and his family.
