Being diagnosed with breast cancer can be a very frightening time. Alongside the concerns and fears, many families feel overwhelmed by the amount of important information they have to take on.

Feedback from patients showed that patients often forgot information that had been shared during their consultation, and wanted to be able to re-cap the most important areas.

Thanks to the generous support of the Ashley Charitable Trust a series of information films for breast cancer patients is now being created to help patients at this difficult time.

The first set, which focuses on radiotherapy, was launched early in 2018, and has already had over 6,000 views.

The comprehensive series of films shares personal testimony by patients at the Churchill Hospital’s Cancer and Haematology Centre, alongside in-depth interviews with clinicians, to help patients prepare for treatment.

Bernadette Lavery, Consultant Clinical Oncologist and Clinical Director at the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance, said:

‘We know that in the turmoil of diagnosis patients often find the level of detailed information they are given too much to deal with. We hope these films will act as a very useful addition to patients,

offering extra clarity and comfort, and guiding them through every step of their upcoming care.

We’re so grateful to Oxford Hospitals Charity and the Ashley Charitable Trust for making them possible.’

Work is now progressing on films about surgery and chemotherapy.
