Our Charity Our Latest News Taking on the Three Peaks Challenge What happens when a team of paediatric anaesthetists and nurses from the John Radcliffe Hospital swap operating theatres for mountains? Last month, Asaker, Bianca, Chandrika, Naresh and Lisa took on the National Three Peaks Challenge, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in under 24 hours! They were spurred on to raise money for Oxford Hospitals Charity in support of the Children’s Hospital. The team covered hundreds of miles between each peak and tackled the mountainous terrain on very little sleep to beat the 24-hour deadline. From traffic delays and aching knees to the odd slip, they were in a race against the clock, and the challenge tested them physically and mentally from start to finish, with plenty of moments when it felt rather ‘overwhelming’. But the team’s determination, sense of humour, and motivation to help young patients in our hospitals kept them going. Lisa said: “Every blister, sore muscle and sleepless hour was worth it to help make a difference. “Whenever things felt tough, we reminded ourselves why we were doing it. Nothing we experienced compares to what the incredible children and families we care for face every day. “The absolute highlight for me was the scenery. We were incredibly lucky with the weather, and apparently it is quite unusual to have such a clear view from midway up to the summit of Ben Nevis. The views were breathtaking and made all the hard work worthwhile. Climbing Scafell Pike in the dark felt like a real adventure too; it was challenging but also something quite special that I'll never forget. Please join us in sharing huge congratulations to the team for completing this amazing challenge and for raising over £3,000 for Oxford Hospitals Charity.
