News News Wantage Mum Gets Set for Abingdon Marathon Meet Lisa, from Wantage, who will be running in the Abingdon Marathon this October. She is running for her son Reuben, aged 2, who was diagnosed with Kabuki Syndrome earlier this year, to raise awareness and funds for the Oxford Children’s Hospital. Kabuki Syndrome is a rare multisystem disorder that can cause unique facial features, immune deficiencies, cardiac abnormalities, and delays in growth and development. Lisa's motivation for joining the marathon is to raise funds as a way of showing appreciation to the exceptional staff at the Oxford Children’s Hospital. She praises teams from the Emergency Department through to Tom's Ward and everyone in between. Lisa says the care, thoroughness, commitment, and ongoing support for Reuben and their family has been invaluable, and highlights Dr Dominic Kelly in particular, whose determination and dedication have been second to none. As Lisa said: “After all, if my little boy can keep smiling through endless prodding, poking, tests, tubes, appointments and admissions - I think the least I can do is keep smiling for one long run.’’ Keep an eye out for updates on Lisa's training progress leading up to the Abington Marathon!
