The Silver Star Society has been spreading a little cheer across maternity teams by gifting staff notebooks and pens.

Silver Star, which is part of Oxford Hospitals Charity, helps fund specialist medical equipment and creates more comfortable and welcoming environments to support maternity services at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH).

Maggie Findlay, Fundraising Manager for Silver Star, was joined by Ali Cuthbertson, Director of Midwifery at OUH, and Professor Chris Redman, the founder of Silver Star, to deliver some of the gifts in person.

Maggie explains: ‘We know there’s a lot going on at the moment for our maternity teams and wanted to send out a little something to thank staff for all they are doing and give them a little boost.

‘Maternity staff have worked so hard over the past couple of years, through some very difficult challenges, so it was really good to get out and have chance to thank people in person.

‘Silver Star has funded some incredible medical equipment over the years to really help women through more complicated pregnancies, but we never forget how pivotal the midwives and maternity teams are. It was lovely to take a moment to personally say thank you to our very special NHS staff.’

Silver Star  - fifty years of special support

  • The Silver Star Society gives huge support to the Silver Star Unit, based at the John Radcliffe. The unit provides specialist care to pregnant mothers and their unborn babies who have serious and rare difficulties in pregnancy.

  • In 2020 the society celebrated fifty years of the pioneering maternity care – which has been leading the way in research and has also created a world first monitoring system.

  • Silver Star is also now focussing on the broader maternity areas, to ensure donations can help as many families as possible.
