'A truly delightful man’ - This is how Trevor Cowlett is remembered by the nurses who cared for him at the Renal Unit in the Churchill Hospital in Oxford.

A music teacher, Trevor even played the piano for one of the ward nurses at her wedding – his wisdom and musicality brought joy to staff who worked on the wards.

This was just one way that Trevor was able to say, thank you.

His daughter, Mary, remembers how the staff who cared for him left a lasting impression. It wasn’t just the exemplary medical care he received but also the compassion he was shown, from holding his hand to offering him cups of tea.

So often for our patients it’s the small acts of kindness that make treatment more bearable.

Trevor never forgot the care and compassion he received from staff on the ward and he wanted them to know what it meant to him.

By leaving a gift in his Will to Oxford Hospitals Charity, Trevor has helped the Renal Team to upgrade and refurbish their staff area.

Thanks to Trevor’s generosity, staff now have somewhere comfortable to rest and recharge during their brief breaks.

His family are pleased to know that Trevor’s gift will have such a direct and positive impact. They told us, ‘We think Trevor would be delighted.’

Legacies from people like Trevor enable our charity to make inspiring improvements for patients and staff across all our hospitals – the John Radcliffe, Horton General, Churchill and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
