Here’s a special story about two incredible supporters.

Sports Therapy Lecturers, Megan Robson and colleague Déarbhla Gallagher, planned to cut their hair together for the Little Princess Trust to help create wigs for children with cancer.

They grew their hair in preparation, ready for it to be cut by their students at Buckinghamshire New University at the beginning of the new academic year.

However, the duo's initial plan took a difficult turn when Megan fell critically-ill with severe headaches in early September. Following a series of scans, she was rushed to the John Radcliffe Hospital, where she was diagnosed with having a giant brain aneurysm, which could need brain surgery to remove it.

Reflecting on her experience, Megan said, “While in the hospital, with the talk of brain surgery, I kept saying to my loved ones that if they needed to shave a bit of my hair off they might as well do it all, so we could still donate it. My mum said to me several times ‘Trust you to still be thinking of others while you are in a hospital bed!’”

In the end Megan’s head didn’t have to be shaved because of the surgical procedure she eventually had, but she and Déarbhla were still determined to donate their hair.

And they both underwent the chop on Megan's birthday – with their students providing a helping hand!

Megan also wanted to express her gratitude to the John Radcliffe Hospital and its exceptional staff, and launched a fundraising page with Déarbhla, gathering support from friends and family. “If it weren’t for the staff at the JR, I wouldn’t be here today and for that, I am eternally grateful,” said Megan.

Between them, they managed to raise over £3,200!

Lorna Eaton, Supporter Care Assistant at Oxford Hospitals Charity, commented, “Not only have Megan and Déarbhla given such a wonderful donation of their hair to the Little Princess Trust but they have managed to raise a fantastic amount for Oxford Hospitals Charity. We are so inspired and humbled by this very special pair”
