A brand new 3D echo imaging suite was installed earlier this year, just prior to lockdown in March. This state of the art technology allows many complex cardiac procedures to take place without the need for a general anaesthetic. Not only does this significantly reduce the risk to the patient, it often means they can go home on the same day. As a result, more patients – young and old – can be seen and treated quickly, and waiting times are reduced.

Dr Sam Dawkins, Consultant Cardiologist, John Radcliffe Hospital, explains:

‘Thanks to this equipment, alongside an incredible can-do attitude, our specialist team didn’t cancel a single procedure due to COVID-19 and we were able to continue to offer clinically urgent procedures for our patients. In fact, we have done more valve replacements this year, than we have ever done in the past ten years.’

Oxford Hospitals Charity has also recently funded a robotic microscope for Neurosurgery and a CT Scanner for the John Radcliffe Emergency Department.

With your help, we can continue to provide the very best medical equipment to make a difference to you and your families.
